York College announces that the honorary degree recipient for Spring 2013 will be Daniel Day Lewis. Mr. Lewis says that he is “not taking this opportunity for granite [sic]” and will carve himself a nook in Special Collections and Archives, where he will be a fixture for some time both before and after the ceremony.
A graphical representation of my work ethic.
So, who can sympathize with this?
This last week was big for YCP!
Last Tuesday, Mia Hamm came to speak in the Grumbacher center. The place was packed with students, staff, faculty, alumni, VIP, and their families—as well as many young soccer players from local (and not-so-local) teams! The talk was great; Mia really drew from her experience as a pro soccer player and as a mother, and she had a great discussion about what it means to be a professional and to excel in your field.
Also, last Thursday and Saturday, author and writer-in-residence Benjamin Percy was on campus to talk about his experience as an author and to give a workshop on what it takes to be a writer and how to really improve your writing. I read some of his short stories a few months ago and attended both sessions; he has a great way with words and really knows how to write. He gave 5 advance copies of his upcoming novel, Red Moon, to students on Thursday who could answer his trivia questions, and I must admit, I was disappointed that i was not quicker with my answers!
YCP has had some great events this year; I am looking forward to future events and to coming back and attending them as an alumna.
im going to open a literature-themed coffee/dessert shop called “Lord of the Pies” and some of the flavor names will be:
- the grape gatsby
- lime & punishment
- the adventures of blackberry finn
- the crepes of wrath
- the catcher in the pie
- war and quiche
- around the world in eighty buffets
- 20,000 leagues under the tea
- the call of the wildberry
OPEN IT AND I WILL COME.
I would so visit this place.
